IMPORTANT INFO |
|
Please remember that Nelson Farms is closed Tuesday - Thursday every week. This is a KPC rule and we must abide by their rules. REMINDER: Give us a quick call after your hunt and let us know how well you did. We keep detailed logs of bags to help us manage the properties for you! MAP Update: Some of the ponds have changed since teal season. We will be posting the updated maps here as soon as we know exactly where they will be. HUNTING UPDATE: Unfortunately our season beginner has hit some snags. The season opened today 10/31/09 which is really a week early. Many of our fields are rice fields. They have been drained in order for the fields to be "second cropped", but unfortunately the rains in the last couple of weeks have prevented many of our farmers from successfully harvesting their rice. Until they do or they decide the crop is wasted, we can't put in our permanent ponds. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but there's absolutely nothing we can do about it but wait. Please be patient during this time. We will get this worked out as quickly as we can. |
Please browse this entire page, and if you have ideas or additional information you would like to see added, please just give us a call!

Membership Dues:
The second
1/2 should be paid on or before October 1st (no later). This will give us the needed
funds to pay the remaining balance of the land leases. (Unless you've
contacted us to make arrangements by October 15th, your group will not be
assigned a hunting location when the season begins.)
Make checks payable to Double R Hunting
Club, and mail them to:

Release of Liability Forms:
The release of liability forms will be provided to you in your hunting packets,
but we've also made them available here for your convenience! EACH
and every member must (absolutely no exceptions) have a completed
form on file with DRHC PRIOR to hunting. This form must be
completed each year.
Download Member Release of Liability Form
Also, by executing this form, you agree that you will also have any/all guests fill out the Guest Release of Liability form PRIOR to stepping on DRHC property to hunt. The fully executed guest forms may be forwarded to DRHC at your convenience during the hunting season. Please make sure that all of your guest forms are sent to DRHC by the end of the hunting season.

Membership Cards:
In recent years many of you have asked for membership cards are
something to distinguish members from non-members. You wish will be
granted this year! We are going to provide each and every member with a
membership card to carry with you. Each member will also be provided with
a card to place on their vehicle's dashboard identifying them as a member.
These two items should help everyone more easily identify those hunters who
should be on the properties and those who should not.
The new cards will be sent out with your hunting packets prior to the beginning of the hunting season.
Please have the spokesperson for your group mail or email a complete list of the hunters to enable us to accurately provide membership cards to everyone.

Poaching:
Poaching has always been a threat on our hunting properties. We
absolutely do not want any of our hunters putting themselves into harms way by
approaching suspected poachers. Please call the main number as soon as you
can to report any suspicious activity, suspected poachers, unsportsmanlike
conduct, etc. We will take care of the situation from there. We have
cell phone numbers for most of the game wardens covering the areas where our
properties are located.

Dove
Hunting:
You are provided dove hunting as part of your membership. We don't
generally expect you to call us for hunting spots for dove hunting. The
only property where dove hunting is absolutely not allowed is Nelson Farms.
(KPC (Katy Prairie Conservancy) does not allow dove hunting on their
property without explicit prior approval for a one-time event.)
For the Central Zone, you can hunt North Longenbaugh (do not go through the gate into Nelson Farms), East and West Peek, plus you can also hunt the Hockley property. We only lease this property for September and October for dove hunting. You can download the Hockley Overview and the Hockley property map from the Dove Lease map page - click here to go to that page. The Hockley property is the only property we can allow you to hunt as the other properties in the Central Zone are for the Dove Memberships.
Dove Hunting works a bit different than waterfowl hunting does. At any time, please feel free to call us if you have questions - that's what we are here for!

Hunting Location Requests and
Reporting Bag #s:
All waterfowl hunts must be requested the day prior to the hunt, no
exceptions (we will not be taking/assigning reservations more than a day in
advance either by phone or email). The spokesperson for your group should call the main number
(281-894-2979) by 5:00PM the day prior to hunting, to make a request for a
hunting location. When a request is received, the group is entered onto
the hunting log request sheet for the following day. As assignments are
made, they are also entered onto the log. We will contact each spokesperson by 6:00PM (at the
latest 7:00PM) to make the final assignments.
We are also taking reservations by email this year! Email your reservation to doublerh@swbell.net by 5:00 PM. Please provide us with your email addresses if you plan on using this method. We must be able to send out an email notice if we are going to be out of town and therefore unable to accept emails.
NOTE: We always want to keep our members happy by assigning the exact hunting location they may have requested each and every time, however this is not always possible for various reasons. Maybe more than one group has requested the same spot, or the area needs to be rested, or there's a problem in that area. Whatever the reason, everyone will have the same opportunities by the end of the season.
Please take a few minutes and call us after your hunt to let us know how your group did that day. The bag information is added to the hunting log for your group and kept on file. This information really does help us manage the properties by keeping the hunting properties productive for you!

Hunting Pictures:
Want to share your great hunting pictures? Email them to us and
we'll be happy to post them on the website! Do you have special hunting
photos of your kids that you would like to share? Send those to me as
well. We'll be happy to post those on the Kid's page for all to see.

Work Schedules:
So many of you have requested updated information about this year's work
schedule - well here it is! Before we get into the actual schedule, here's
some background information on our blinds for this season:
| BLIND BRUSH: We will be brushing our
blinds a little differently this year, mostly due to the price of
diesel. We have invested in the "braided fast-grass" for our
blinds. This will prevent the unending trips to cut cane, haul
cane and then get it distributed to the fields for blind building.
The new fast-grass should also prevent the unending rebuilding of blinds because hunters break the cane over so drastically that it doesn't do it's job! We figure that it should probably take 4 mats of the new fast-grass per blind. These will be installed on the hog wire, we already use today for the blind structure, with zip ties.
|
| BLIND BENCHES AND WIRE: As with past years, we will be repairing/replacing/adding benches to the blinds as needed. These are built by DRHC and/or volunteers using either purchased or donated 2x4's. The wire from last year should be reusable, but will be replaced if needed. We will purchase the hog wire as needed. |
The expected WORK days will be on the weekends. The general areas for the next few weekends are listed below.
